Busy Bee!

Here’s a little update on what I’ve been working on as I transition from school to home!

A commission from a women in Seattle:

In Progress

As for my own painting, since ending the 100 days project, I am exploring mark-making and texture while using only acrylic paint on canvas.  The medium and ground are both different directions for me.

Also in Progress

Thirdly, I have been busy updating my etsy store with new drawings – some from this year’s 100 days project!

I have also opened a NEW etsy store that sells rug hooking wool, hooks, and patterns (coming soon)!  I’d like to even start a rug of my own soon!

Bloggin, Bloggin, Bloggin

I have a couple of different drawing/writing projects going on at the moment that are really exciting!

Firstly, my inspiring artist Aunt, Deanne Fitzpatrick has an extremely successful blog and website to accompany her extremely successful rug hooking studio and business and she has asked me to do a guest post every two weeks!  I’ve decided to start a drawing project in which I make one drawing every single day for one year.

This project is half instructional, half journaling the day-to-day.  I’ve invited any of her readers to join along and I’m hoping that they will once I start putting pictures of my own drawings up on her blog.  Here is a picture of one my Auntie Dee’s rugs and a link to her awesome blog:

My second bloging and drawing project will be the 100 Days project which has been steadily gaining momentum over the last couple years in participants.  The idea is very similar to the project I am doing with Auntie Dee, but I will be posting every drawing I make and updating more frequently.  To learn more about the 100 Days project visit their website, check out all the participants, or click this link to go directly to my 100 days blog.  Maybe you’ll even want to join!

One + One

This week myself and one of my past structure drawing students are part of an exhibition at Artworks, a local arts and culture center in downtown New Bedford.

The idea for the show was dreamed up by the fine arts department to give faculty members and one student of their choosing a chance to exhibit next to each other in a gallery setting.

My student, Maddie Hernandez, is exhibiting one of her “fabric/value studies” drawings that we did last semester in my drawing class.

The opening reception for this show is Thursday, April 14th (AHA night) from 5-7PM.  For more information or directions visit the Artworks website.

Thesis Show is up and ready to be seen by the world!

This weekend my classmates, teachers, parents, friends and family all attended the opening reception of Umass Dartmouth’s MFA Thesis Exhibition 2011!

The exhibition showcases the work of 15 graduating students and is divided between 4 different galleries all on the 1st floor of downtown New Bedford’s Star Store building.

Eight of my paintings and three of my 3D pieces are located in the Crapo Gallery which is immediately to the left of the building’s main entrance.

The Crapo Gallery also has the work of talented ceramics student, Arlynn Noble.  I think the pairing of our work is genius!

On the other side of the gallery is illustration student, Melanie Cataldo, who showcased her in-process book which explores New Bedford’s historical whaling roots.

The show will be up for the rest of the school year (until May 15th).  For more details or directions to the Star Store visit the CVPA website!

I recently decided to get involved with the Barn by implementing and writing a monthly newsletter for the organization.  Please visit the Barn’s website for more information on how you can get involved, volunteer, or exhibit your own work!

Also, feel free to contact me with your e-mail if you’d like to sign up for the monthly Guyer Art Barn newsletter!
